Triage Policy

At Harris Academy Beulah, our mission is to ensure every student succeeds and engages fully in their education. To achieve this, we operate a Behaviour Triage System that unites four key pastoral areas: Behaviour, Attendance, Special Educational Needs (SEND), and Safeguarding.

This system acts as a proactive task force designed to prevent issues, intervene early, and support students so they can meet the high standards we set. Guided by our ethos, we believe in having the Courage to Challenge each individual, while identifying their needs so they can Succeed in achieving their life goals.

Every fortnight, our triage system reviews students against set thresholds. Each student is scored in the four BASS areas and placed on one of three stages. Each stage has clear actions that our pastoral team implements to improve outcomes.

We believe in strategic intervention, always placing the student at the heart of our decisions to ensure maximum impact.

Termly Thresholds and Actions

Behaviour

  • Stage 1: Low-level concerns → Tutor monitoring, restorative conversations, parental contact.
  • Stage 2: Persistent issues → Behaviour contracts, mentoring, targeted interventions.
  • Stage 3: Serious concerns → Senior leadership involvement, external agency support, possible managed move.

Attendance

  • Stage 1: 94–96% attendance → Tutor reminders, attendance tracking, positive reinforcement.
  • Stage 2: 90–94% attendance → HOY meetings, parental engagement, attendance improvement plans.
  • Stage 3: Below 90% attendance → HALO and Attendance Officer involvement, referrals to external agencies, safeguarding checks.

Special Educational Needs (SEND)

  • Stage 1: Identified needs → Classroom adjustments, differentiated teaching, monitoring by SEND team.
  • Stage 2: Persistent barriers → Individual support plans, small group interventions, external specialist input.
  • Stage 3: Complex needs → EHCP consideration, multi-agency support, personalised curriculum pathways.

Safeguarding

  • Stage 1: Initial concerns → Tutor check-ins, pastoral team monitoring, early help referrals.
  • Stage 2: Ongoing concerns → Designated Safeguarding Lead involvement, family support, targeted interventions.
  • Stage 3: High-risk concerns → Immediate safeguarding referrals, external agency involvement, protective measures.

Our Commitment

Through this triage system, Harris Academy Beulah ensures that no student is left behind. By combining behaviour, attendance, SEND, and safeguarding into one coherent framework, we provide consistent, structured, and compassionate support that empowers students to thrive both academically and personally.
